Here we are again! I’m not sure how it has happened already, but another New Year is upon us. My eyesight is just a little bit worse, and my back hurts just a little bit more, but I’m still here, hosting a wide range of auction categories for you all and I’m absolutely loving it.
We’ve seen some super interesting items this year which I am excited to share with you. One of my favourite things about my job is that no two days are the same. On Wednesday I’ll be selling a full-scale business closure, Thursday it’ll be collectable art and antiques. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What a great way to start the year off with a catalogue of Luxury watches which we held for one of our long standing, trusted watch vendors. This Frédérique was brand new and featured a gorgeous diamond bezel with a steel band. I must say, I was a little jealous that this watch wasn’t coming to my house. It may seem a little daunting for some to purchase such a luxurious item at auction, but rest assured that all our sellers are security checked prior to listing with us and we only ever list genuine products. We take great care to ensure that our buyers are treated with the same level of importance as our sellers. Without our buyers, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

This absolutely gorgeous opal & diamond pendant was listed in our special Valentine’s Day collective jewellery auction back in February. The auction itself featured almost 500 lots of jewellery to suit any budget, but this particular piece really stood out as a personal favourite. I just find opals to be so unique and each is individually beautiful in their own way. This pendant achieved £750 on the hammer and was sold by one of our wonderful jewellery vendors who have been successfully selling with us for a number of years. We regularly hold seasonal auctions to keep up with market trends and our collective auctions are completely free to list up to 50 items per catalogue, so everyone is a winner!

This was a great example of one of the pallets offered in our retail returns auctions, which was sold by a major UK retailer. The pallet included over 50 products including home furnishings, home improvements, kitchen items and more. The pallet reached £500 on the hammer and had a total retail value of over £4,000! John Bellany CBE RA Original Oil On Canvas

This piece was an extremely rare, original oil on canvas by the famous late Scottish artist John Bellany CBE. RA. (1942-2013) and was titled, “The Fishermans Window”. It depicts a view from the fisherman's window overlooking Port Seton harbour with many local landmarks within the painting including "Arthurs Seat" in Edinburgh. John Bellany who was born in Port Seton, had painted many scenes of this harbour and other fishing subjects. Most of his work through auction has been small canvases compared to this rare large canvas with an original fetching over £100,000 in 2022. The piece was sold by one of our very reputable art vendors in February and fetched a whopping £13,000 on the hammer! The seller holds at least one auction with us a month, always featuring big names such as Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky, Dali, Lowry and many more.

As one of the very few nerds on the planet who still plays Pokémon Go, I was super excited to come across a selection of vintage cards for auction. These sold back in March in one of our Antiques & Collectables auctions via the Saleroom. So yes, people actually collect them! This lot of 20 cards sold on the hammer for £65, so it might be worth a trip up into the attic to see if your old collector’s flip book is still there, you might find you have a little extra pocket money next month!

Tracey Emin RA (b.1963) 'Everybody Needs a Place to Think', with BBC4 Invitation, Limited Edition

It’s all about the provenance! Whilst some may look at this item and think “why on earth would I pay for an old handkerchief with scribbles on it? ”… Well, art collectors and investors would tell you to read on...
Well renowned Artist Tracey Emin, described as someone who "could not think her way out of a paper bag", designed these ‘invitations’, for the launch of the digital channel BBC Four. To promote its cultural channel, Emin was commissioned by the BBC to create a gift to accompany the VIP invitation to the launch party, which took place in a former rug factory in east London in 2002. The invitations took the form of a small brown cardboard box containing a card, with the Emin-designed handkerchief tied round it. On it, Emin wrote: "BBC Four: Everybody needs a place to think." The invitation card says: "Please bring this invite with you otherwise you're not going to get in, love Tracey." The gift invitation included the printed text by Tracey Emin in her recognisable handwriting. While event goers were able to keep the handkerchief, they gave up their invitations on arrival, making this particular set of both invitation and handkerchief rarer, perfect for framing or investing! The piece achieved £475 on the hammer back in June in one of our collective art auctions. This is a fantastic example of some major savings that can be found when buying through us. This lot was listed due to a business closure and featured a huge amount of new, refurbished and returned tech goods from some big-name brands such as Apple, PlayStation and Microsoft. This lot achieved £19,000 on the hammer in June; with a total retail value of over £70,000, the winning bidder has bagged themselves a huge investment. So many of our buyers make a massive profit from purchasing bulk stock from liquidations, it really is a great way to earn extra cash during these trying times.

This particular item features a beautiful photograph of Princess Diana, bearing an original signature signed simply, “Diana”. The photograph fetched £1,300 on the hammer in November.
